wedwell q&a with therapist Ashley

Happy Monday! We’ve loved getting to introduce you to some of our fabulous practitioners, and hope you have enjoyed meeting them as well. This week we are introducing Ashley, an love-filled therapist and yoga instructor. Fun fact, Olivia (co-founder) and Ashley met during their 200 hour yoga teacher training! Ashley is a somatically inclined therapist who takes a holistic approach to care, looking at the whole person instead of mere symptomology. She understands that each relationship is unique, and her full range of offerings reflects that. What services do you offer and what is your favorite part of this service? 

I offer holistic care in a variety of ways. Specifically sessions geared towards deeper embodiment, connection with self and others and overall enhancement of quality of life. From couples therapy, to individual sessions or movement work like couples restorative yoga or a private session to get you in your body before the big day. My therapy style helps people to unwind and reconnect with core values and desire and live from that place of self-love. Because I believe that we have more to offer when we’re coming from a place of being filled up and cared for.

My favorite part about the work that I get to do is when I see the transformational shift that happens within a session, people come in feeling anxious or stressed with all the pressures of life and leave feeling refreshed, reinvigorated and more connected with self and others. It’s a beautiful thing, kind of magical really.

How did you get into wellness?

I was a professional dancer in my twenties and got a severe injury that forced me to make some significant lifestyle changes for the sake of sustainability. It’s what got me involved in yoga and later I moved forward in my career as a counselor. I’ve since then married the two passions of my heart of somatic movement and body positivity with a deep desire to connect with people and embrace more of this humanness that makes us come more fully alive. It’s an empowering message that I hope to instill in others.

What is your favorite routine?

If it’s been a hellish day my go to is a crisp glass of sparkling Rose’ a phone call with one of my besties and then a killer hot yoga class where I can get my sweat on and move to some hip-hop beats. For the weekends I like to do some kind of simple adventure, like a hike or mini road trip or even playing tourist in my own town, whether being at a cozy coffee shop with a good book or exploring farmers markets. Whatever fits my fancy happens to guide my inclination.

What is your go-to song to help you feel happy?     

If I’m having a need for a little pep talk I just put on Lizzo’s song Worship, it makes me feel body confidence and it’s the best dance party in three minutes. Happy!

What is your favorite quote to live by? How do you incorporate this quote in your daily life?

  2. I try to remind myself to take risk even when it scares me, to stay in community with people who reaffirm my sense of worth and value.

Do you have one person that has inspired your wellness journey?

So many amazing people… but a few of them would have to be:

  1. My therapist, who reminds me that filling my own cup before I fill other’s matters b/c that’s where I do my best work and feel the most alive.

  2. My friendships, people who enjoy living from a holistic place. Doing movement in community is my favorite.

  3. And a bunch of my favorite yoga teachers, especially the ones who offer restorative b/c it’s tough for me to slow down and they help me drop in and reconnect with myself and inner compass.

What advice do you have for anyone about to try your service for the first time?

You deserve care, so why not start with the mind body connection and see how new awareness will enrich your already beautiful and vibrant life.
